Counselling & Psychotherapy

Cardiff in-Person | UK & EU Online

Feeling lost, uncertain, and overwhelmed amidst the pressure to “have it all figured out” - be it in our career, education, relationships, life direction and purpose - can leave us feeling as if there is something wrong with us, or that we are not good enough. It can be a lonely and sometimes dark place to be.

Perhaps you have desperately tried to find the “right answers” or figure out the “right decision”, “out there”, only to find yourself feeling unhappy and unfulfilled.

Maybe you’re questioning the roles you find yourself playing in life and are curious to learn more about yourself, but aren’t sure where to begin.

If this sounds like something you are experiencing, then we might be a good fit to work together in therapy.

I’m Rebecca, a BACP registered psychotherapist and counsellor.

I offer a confidential and calm space to help people in their search for personal meaning and understanding during their difficult experiences in life.

Counselling can help you to reconnect with yourself, become more-self aware and self-accepting, and become better able to handle changes and challenges as they occur throughout life. We can work together to turn your search for meaning inwards as you reconnect with your Self, navigate uncertainty, and find your own path.

I offer 1-1 therapy sessions with adults, in-person in Cardiff and online. The fee per 50-minute session is £60.

Types of Sessions

  • Assessment - 1 hour - £60

The purpose of the assessment is to learn more about what brings you to seek help at this time, and what changes you hope to make. It also gives me an idea of what your therapeutic needs are, and allows us to formulate an idea of the direction, depth and time our work may take.

It also involves a formal risk assessment, and an opportunity to discuss the practicalities of therapy.

  • 1:1 Counselling Session - 50 mins - £60

Sessions are held weekly, usually at the same time if possible. I would recommend coming weekly for the first 6-8 sessions, as this helps to establish the therapeutic relationship and allows us to get into the work.

The number of sessions depends on many factors, including the type of issue/s you are bringing, and the depth at which you want to work. In general, clients tend to see change from between 10 - 20 sessions, or anywhere from 3 to 6 months.

  • Monthly 1:1 Counselling Session - 1hr 15 mins - £90

Once we have established the foundation of the therapeutic relationship, and have worked through or completed a piece of work, it may be appropriate to choose to attend a longer session, less frequently.

This tends to work best for clients who find themselves feeling 'better' after working through their initial issue/s for a length of time, and who have implemented new self-beliefs and changes in their lives.

Working for 75 mins can enable us to work at a deeper level for longer, and as such is not recommended until the client has engaged with single 50 min sessions for a length of time.

Clients often choose this reflective space as an ongoing part of their self-care, growing self-awareness, and emotional fitness.

What to expect from counselling sessions

  • I find it more helpful to think of counselling as a way of ‘being’ rather than ‘doing’. There is no set of instructions or a checklist when it comes to talking therapy.

I work on the belief that whatever it is that we are experiencing at any time, is here to teach us not only something about ourselves, but is also an opportunity to reconnect to our true self.

I have found that only through returning to the Self are we then able to grow and connect meaningfully with others.

As an integrative-relational therapist, I draw on different modalities of counselling as they best fit you, as an individual client, and your circumstances. In a session, this might include using psychodynamic theory to explore your earlier experiences, or the person-centred approach to explore your feelings in the present moment.

  • The fee for each counselling session is £60, and is paid on the day of the session.

  • Fees are payable on the day of the session, via direct bank transfer.

Please note that I operate a 48-hour cancellation policy, with any cancellation fewer than 48 hours notice incurring the full session fee. (If I need to cancel the session, you won’t be charged).

  • Prior to the first session, we will establish the counselling contract (agreement). This includes details such as limits to confidentiality, GDPR and privacy notice, time, place and number of sessions, boundaries, and expectations for counselling. You have the opportunity to ask questions at any time.

The first session will be an extended assessment session (1 hour) to find out more about you, your reasons and aims for counselling, your current circumstances and background / history, and a risk assessment.

  • This is up to you. How long we work together depends on many individual factors, including how much time you can commit to therapy, and how 'deep' into the work you want or feel ready to go.

We will discuss this during the assessment session.

Some clients find the help they need in a shorter period of time; others need longer to work through more complex issues that may have originated in childhood.

Counselling therapy does, however, require a level of commitment and time investment into the process: it is not a quick fix.

In general, it takes between 10-20 sessions, or between 2-6 months for change to take place.

  • We have access to a ground floor counselling room. My office in Cardiff has a downstairs toilet and a step at the front door.

If you have any additional accessibility needs or considerations, please let me know so that we can make counselling a comfortable experience for you.

If you would like to learn more, please get in touch via email to arrange a free, 20-30 minute consultation session.

I will respond to your inquiry within 3 working days via email.
